HARUNOBU Suzuki, whose work opens out between 1764 and 1770 with the development of the images calendar (egoyomi), is a distinguished figure of the history of the Japanese
print and one of its most singular Masters. Its work establishing the link between the former production of images raised of two colours and those having an enriched polychromies, dissociates that of the artists of the Torii
school characterized by their portraits of actors of kabuki: its work is delayed with the description of subtle female images to delicate polychromies. True pictorial voyage, this presentation of 44 prints evokes the subtle art of Ukiyo-e strongly inspired by the literature and poetry, thus plunging the visitor in the shimmering universe specific to the painter. |

The Samurai has been a source of fascination for over 150 years, and is now firmly entrenched in the Western image of Japan. But who were they, really? What do we actually know about
these warriors? When did they first appear in Japanese history? What role did they play in Japanese society? In Japan, from art to the business world, what role do these Medieval warriors still have, while their code and
attitudes still pervade Western film and imagination? Bringing together over 450 priceless objects, some of which will be on display for the first time, this exhibition goes beyond the simple historical presentation of a warrior class, and paints a broad portrait of Japan’s past and present. |

Do you know the “sited stand-up”? Did you already see a storyteller walking on a cushion, to drink with a range, to read in a towel and to make dialogue several characters? It is a Japanese art: Rakugo. The storyteller sitting on the knees interprets his history and MIME, using a range and of a fabric, the most extravagant situations! The storyteller Stephan FERRANDEZ, 100 years after, returns the scene to the “storyteller to the blue eyes” Henry BLACK, Master of the Japanese word to humour as prickly as timeless. A voyage in time, of the Meiji era at our days, to discover Japan as you never yet saw it! |

In Japan, the marvellous one is never far. Mukashi, mukashi, a long ago, with the whole beginning of the world, Japan was still called Akitsu Shima: the island with the dragonflies. At that time, the animals had the capacity to metamorphose themselves. Aka tombo, a small red dragonfly, will tell with the first emperor of Japan the secrecies of the forests of these islands. Leave on a journey with them, with the meeting of legendary Japanese, where the tanukis and the foxes have fun men and compete of mischievousness to play their more beautiful jokes. Stephan FERRANDEZ, trained by the Japanese Masters of the word in Osaka, guides the small ears as from 6 years towards the Japanese traditional tales: Rakugo. |

The exposure “the Art of the love to the time of Geishas: the prohibited masterpieces of Japanese art” is the first ever presented in France on these famous prints which
concern all our phantasms and the imaginary native of the Far East.
The prosperity of the time of Edo supports the birth of a news and rich dominant middle-class class within the large Japanese cities: chonin (town). These tradesmen, craftsmen, doctors,
teachers or artists affirm by the means of the cultural movement ukiyo-e a design hedonist of the existence which contrasts with neo-Confucianist Japanese morals of the leading warlike classes. The movement ukiyo-e,
“images of the floating world”, is the fruit of an aesthetic and ethical reflexion on the short and transitory character of the life and where the angle of the idealized female beauty and imaginary erotic takes
a dominating share. |
||||
Warning | ||||
The exposure “the Art of the love to the time of Geishas” present of works at strongly erotic character which can shock certain visitors. It is disadvised with young people. |

Japan occupies a singular place in the history of the world theater; creator of forms of total art we owe him the nô and the kabuki, the latter, the object of a particular
attention on behalf of masters of the print. It is because, more or less, the art of the print and the kabuki are fundamentally embodied in the same place - Edo, the classic art Tokyo - and reach
their full maturity at the same time. |

Master MATSUURA Masato suggests us putting on the opposite page the military body of the follower of art and that of the dancer of No. Such the roller of the water, expensive
to MUSASHI Miyamoto, it will be a question of perfecting, in an essential opening in the space and in the partners or the opponents, the balance and the fluidity, of freeing the potential of energy and the movements
of the body. |
